Spain's SMS sender register drives 40% surge in Lleida.net
trafficMADRID, 6 October 2026 – Lleida.net (BME:LLN, EPA:ALLLN), the listed technology services company, has seen the volume of SMS traffic it delivers to Spanish mobile operators climb 40% since January, driven by the country's new mandatory sender registration regime. Growth gathered pace as the first phase of the rules took effect and has soared since they came fully into force on 15 September. Spain is the company's largest market for SMS traffic.
Lleida.net estimates that it now handles between 20% and 25% of Spain's high-quality SMS traffic, meaning the transactional, non-marketing messages that include two-factor authentication codes and service notifications. The register itself has given the company the visibility it needed to calculate that share.
Since 15 September, telecoms operators have been required to block any SMS, MMS or RCS message sent under a brand name or alias that is not listed on the Alias Register held by the CNMC, Spain's markets and competition regulator, or that is routed through a provider not authorised on that register. The measure stems from Ministerial Order TDF/149/2025 and CNMC Circular 1/2026, and aims to curb smishing, the SMS fraud in which criminals impersonate banks, businesses and public bodies.
As a licensed telecoms operator with its own CNBC-allocated numbering, Lleida.net can assign numbers directly to its clients. Under the new regime, traffic from the major messaging platforms is being steered towards authorised providers.
The register has also given the company's existing customers a boost, with many sending more traffic through Lleida.net once their sender IDs were registered.
"For years, anyone could pose as a bank or a government department on a mobile phone screen. Requiring every sender to be identified restores trust in a channel that millions of people rely on every day, and it rewards the companies that play by the rules," said Sisco Sapena, CEO of Lleida.net.
Founded in 1995, Lleida.net is one of Europe's leading providers of registered electronic notification, e-contracting and digital signature services. The company holds more than 300 patents in over 60 countries and is listed on BME Growth (Madrid) and Euronext Growth (Paris), as well as in Frankfurt and Stuttgart.
